Our Salon

Once upon a time (okay, the early ’90s), Bobby and Patrick met and instantly clicked. Bobby was already rocking the hair world, scissors in hand and full of flair. Patrick, meanwhile, was performing in shows at Six Flags — basically living his best showbiz life. They were both creative, a little wild, and a lot of fun — so of course, they became fast friends.

Over the years, that friendship grew into something more like brotherhood — complete with laughter, long talks, and probably a few questionable fashion choices along the way.

When Patrick moved to Chicago in 2000, he fell in love with the city and couldn’t stop bragging about it. He called Bobby constantly, saying, “You’ve got to move here!” Bobby hesitated (as one does when faced with deep-dish pizza and winter that hurts your face), but in 2002 he finally took the leap — and the rest is history.

By the early 2000s, Patrick had become a stylist himself, and in 2005 they first started joking about opening a salon together. “One day…” they’d say — usually followed by laughter, snacks, and a few crazy ideas.

Fast forward to 2024 — the jokes turned serious. Sitting around Patrick’s dining room table, coffee in hand (and maybe a cocktail later), they decided it was time to make the dream real. But they needed a name.

That’s when the universe — and a certain mannequin — stepped in. Back when Bobby was in beauty school, he found a mannequin in an alley (yes, really) and took her home. They dressed her up, gave her personality, and she became part of the family. When they eventually took her apart to move, they discovered “AURA” written inside her torso in permanent marker.

Aura had been with them for years — and that night, as they brainstormed names, it just clicked. Aura Salon was born — a name filled with creativity, history, and a little bit of magic.

Opening Aura has been an incredible journey — made possible by the endless love, laughter, and support from our friends, family, clients, and everyone who’s believed in us over the years. We couldn’t have done this without you.
